Description

"Sol Negro" brings together not only photographs but also female stories in which melancholy underlies as a mysterious feeling that has marked the work of the included artists. Photography allows naming suffering and transforming absence into a sign. The twelve artists presented in the exhibition propose visual essays that create a narrative of the dark side of life, facing personal or collective tragedies: loneliness, discrimination, struggles, violence. Far from offering a judgmental victimizing perspective, the aim is to show the poetic strength of that somber abyss. In their creative processes, there is a need to excavate the space of what is missing, to patiently remember a time that fades away. There is darkness even in strength and virtues, and the metaphor of the photographic medium fits into it, as what is forgotten reappears on the paper where light darkens the silver nitrate.

With photographs by Adriana Lestido, Luz María Bedoya, Johanna Calle, Hellen Zout, Claudia Donoso, Rosa Gauditano, Leonora Vicuña, Carla Rippey, Carolina Cárdenas, Milagros de la Torre, Paz Errázuriz y Rosario López.
