Errázuriz, Paz

(Chile 1944)

Using black-and-white photography as a distancing mechanism, Errázuriz has exposed seminal social issues in documentary style, organizing her work into thematic series. She tends to use portraits, both individual and collective, to capture images that convey realism and poetry at the same time. Her best-known series include Adán (Adam) (1990); El infarto del alma (The heart attack of the soul) (1992-1994); and Los nómades del mar (The nomads of the sea) (1991-1995), which she dedicated to the last living representatives of the Kawésqar ethnic group.
