Makarius, Sameer
This visual artist and photographer was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1924, later living in Germany and Hungary. An abstract artist in the geometric-constructive school, he took part in the first abstract art exhibition in Budapest, and was a founding member of the Hungarian concrete art group and a member of the European School. He settled in Buenos Aires in 1953. He participated in the abstract avant-garde in the 50s and in the first exhibition by the neo-figurative group (1961). He is noted for his portraits and his series dedicated to Buenos Aires. He is the author of a pioneering work: La fotografía en la Argentina, 1840-1981. He died in Buenos Aires in 2009.
