An unpublished part of Gisèle Freund’s personal collection: portraits of Latin American personalities, intellectuals, writers, and artists. These photographs reveal the artist's life journey, from her beginnings in Paris, through her exile in Argentina, her stays in Uruguay, Chile, and Mexico, to her final return to Europe. Along her travels, Gisèle Freund created portraits of important figures such as Julio Cortázar, Pablo Neruda, Nicolás Guillén, Octavio Paz, Alejo Carpentier, Vicente Huidobro, Jorge Luis Borges, Norah Borges, Eva Perón, Victoria and Angélica Ocampo, Roberto Matta, Frida Kahlo, and Diego Rivera, among others. The book also includes an in-depth essay by Juan Manuel Bonet and an interview with Gisèle Freund conducted by Juan Álvarez Márquez in her later years.
