The Panamanian photographer’s favorite subject is the human being. She portrays people adorned with dignity and inner richness—never vulnerable or defenseless. This positive, optimistic attitude sets her apart from other great women photographers. Eleta’s gaze is full of vitality, affection, joy, and solidarity. She is driven by a desire to reveal the beauty of her people. This is a fitting summary of the photographic essay she began in 1977 in the small Caribbean port town of Portobelo, Panama.
