Álvarez, César (Pocho)

He is an independent Ecuadorian documentary filmmaker. He has made over fifty films in his country, as well as in Latin America, Asia, and Europe. He is one of the most recognized Ecuadorian filmmakers on the international scene. His agitational and testimonial cinema seeks to portray the struggle and resistance of communities and peoples defending life and their rights, offering hope for a more just tomorrow. Some of his notable works include "Nosotros, una historia de obreros" (1984), "Luar Trocas" (1987), "Memorias de campaña" (1989), "En un rincón del alma" (1995), "Entre muros los silencios" (1999), "The green deal in Cambodia" (2004), "Ecuador: niñez y adolescencia, Tóxicotexacotóxico" (2007), "Ale y Dumas, uno es dos y dos son uno" (2008), "A cielo abierto, derechos minados" (2009), "Jorgenrique" (2010), "Pieldolor" (2011), "El Conejo Velasco" (2013), "Javier con I, Intag" (2015), "Muisne, aquí nos quedamos 'Biejo' Lucho" (2016), "Nosotros los otros nosotros" (2016), "Hugo, territorio rebelde" (2018), "Gartelmann, la memoria" (2018), "Galápagos, un paraíso en pérdida" (2019), "Indolencia rayos X" (2022), and "Manglar, ley de mujer" (2023). He is also the author and researcher of Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela for the book edited by Alfonso Gumucio D., "Cine comunitario en América Latina y el Caribe" (2012), and co-author with Jorge Enrique Adoum of the book "Ecuador, imágenes de un pretérito presente" (1981).
