Huarcaya, Roberto

He was born in Lima in 1959. In 1986, he graduated in Psychology from the Catholic University of Peru. In 1983, he studied film at the Italian Institute of Culture in Lima. In 1986, he began his journey in photography at La Araña Workshop in Lima. In the following years, he continued his photography studies at the Center for Image Studies in Madrid. In 1990, he became the head of practices at the University of Lima, and in 1991, a photography professor at the same university. He has participated in various collective exhibitions in Peru and other Latin American cities. His work is part of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, the Fine Arts Museum of Houston, the MOLAA Museum of Latin American Art in California, the CoCA Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle, Lehigh University Art Collection, Lima Art Museum, San Marcos Museum in Lima, the América Foundation in Santiago de Chile, the Wilfredo Lam Center for Contemporary Art in Havana, the Latin American Photography Library FOLA in Buenos Aires, the Hochschild Collection, the Jan Mulder Collection, among others. He is the co-director of the Lima Photography Biennial and Lima Photo, a fair specializing in photography galleries. He is also the co-editor of the CDI magazine from the Center for Image and "Sueño de la Razón," a Latin American photography magazine. He resides in Lima.
