Grobet, Lourdes

With a background in dance and drawing, she first studied Fine Arts at the Iberoamerican University and later Graphic Design and Photography at the Cardiff College of Art. It was in the United Kingdom where she discovered photography as a means to develop and explore her artistic abilities to the fullest for over thirty years. Influenced by her teachers Mathias Goeritz and Gilberto Aceves Navarro, since 1975, Grobet has taken over eleven thousand images of sports and the folklore of Mexican urban culture. Her recent photographic production highlights the iconic image of the great milestones of Mexican wrestling, and it was compiled in 2005 in the book "Espectacular de lucha libre," which became a cult object. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, such as at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris ("Upside Down Les Artiques, 2008-2009) and at FotoEspaña in 2007. Her latest work is the installation "El Nuevo Hombre de Bering," presented in 2012 in Nîmes, France.
