Goded, Maya

He studied at the Active School of Photography (1985-1987), and then, until 1994, attended several photography workshops. His documentary work provides a human perspective that engages with the events being depicted. He received several grants and awards, such as the Joop Swart Masterclass course from World Press Photo in 1996 and the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in 2003. In 1994, he published "Tierra Negra," a project about the African-origin population of the Costa Chica region in Guerrero. In 2006, he published "Plaza de la soledad," a book that collects his series on sex workers in Mexico. He also worked on the issue of murdered women in Ciudad Juárez, as well as on rituals and religious pilgrimages. Among many, his recent solo exhibitions include "Las olvidadas" at the California Museum of Photography in 2011 and "Todas volvemos a la calle" at the Casa de America in Madrid in 2007.
