Caro, Bill

He studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the National University of Engineering (1966-1971). He exhibited for the first time as a visual artist in 1971, at the Carlos Rodriguez Saavedra Gallery, before earning the ICPNA Watercolor Prize in 1974. From then on, Bill Caro developed an intense activity as a painter, showcased in solo exhibitions as well as in biennials and international competitions, such as the Third Medellin Biennial in Colombia. He descends from Photorealism; his hyperrealistic paintings mimic a photograph to the point of introducing distortions produced by camera lenses. He demonstrates work on space, balance, and perspective, and his frequent themes are urban landscapes depicting the old colonial mansions of downtown Lima and the neighborhoods surrounding the capital.
