Reis, Rogério

(Brazil 1954)

Reis has been a photographer since 1977, known for his in-depth portrayal of the many facets of the street carnivals in Rio de Janeiro over fifteen years, a photographic essay subsequently published in the book Na lona (On canvas). His works deal principally with urban themes, anonymous characters from everyday scenes upon whose faces he superimposes geometric shapes. This resource enables the artist to explore the topical issue of personal image rights. In his words, “I am the paparazzi of anonymity.”
