During the exhibition Las Pelilargas by Irina Werning, the Larivière Foundation will serve as a drop-off point for hair donations for the NGO Un Pelito Más Fácil, with whom Werning connected while developing her photographic project.
Un Pelito Más Fácil is an initiative by Lado H and Bellamente that invites people to take action by donating their hair to help create wigs that are given free of charge to girls, teenagers, and adults undergoing cancer treatment.
People going through cancer treatment often experience increased pressure related to body image due to the physical changes caused by treatment, which impacts their emotional and social well-being.
This is especially true for patients undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy — the most common treatment methods — for whom hair loss, surgical scars, and other visible side effects can cause significant anxiety related to their physical appearance and how they are perceived by others.
Un Pelito Más Fácil seeks to encourage the community to join in by donating hair, promote reflection on the relationship between physical health, mental health, and self-esteem in oncology patients, exchange knowledge and experiences related to the impact of body dissatisfaction on the mental health of those undergoing cancer treatments, and promote tools aimed at reducing the social pressure surrounding the mental and physical health of individuals in treatment.
If you’d like to donate your hair, follow these steps:
- Minimum length: 15 cm. All hair types are accepted (dyed, gray, curly, straightened, etc.)
- Hair must be clean and dry
- Make a ponytail or braid and cut it
- Store it in a paper or plastic bag and seal it to keep it protected
- Add a note with a message for the person who will receive the wig
- Drop it off from Thursday to Sunday, between 12 PM and 7 PM, at the Larivière Foundation.
