Visual Narratives. Photomontage and Collage Workshop

Workshop Objective:

To introduce participants to photomontage and collage techniques, drawing inspiration from the work of Juan Enrique Bedoya and other artists from different periods, in order to create visual compositions that engage with the themes and styles present in the exhibition.

Workshop Structure:

  1. Introductory tour of the exhibition My Country Isn't Greece in Hall 1.
  2. Introduction to collage in art history: presentation of key works from the recent history of collage; analysis of seminal artists (Hannah Höch, Grete Stern, Rosana Schoijett, John Stezaker, and Linder Sterling, among others) and their impact on visual culture; and a brief discussion on the relevance of collage as a tool for critique, experimentation, and storytelling.
  3. Hands-on collage workshop: participants will create their own collage using graphic materials (magazines, newspapers, prints, etc.). Basic instructions on composition, cutting, pasting, and experimenting with textures and colors will be provided, along with personalized guidance to foster creativity and address technical questions.
  4. Presentation of collages and final reflection: participants will be invited to share their works and briefly explain their inspiration or process. The session will conclude with a reflection on the experience and the connections between the creations and the exhibition in Gallery 1.

Required materials: graphic material to cut out (magazines, printed photographs, newspapers) and scissors.
