The management of photographic collections: a model for conceptualizing the tasks of organization and administration, featuring Fernando Osorio

On April 20th at 4:00 pm, a conference-workshop will be held at the Larivière Foundation led by Fernando Osorio, who will address the following thematic cores:

  • The concept of physical control of collections: aiming to understand the dynamics and structure of the management model; acquiring knowledge and understanding the scope of the main tasks of physical control; reflecting, discussing and contrasting collection registration tasks, as well as conservation, diagnosis and preservation.
  • The concept of intellectual control of collections: the goal is to acquire knowledge and understanding of the tasks of intellectual control, as well as to reflect, discuss and contrast the tasks of analysis, description and cataloging of images and databases.
  • The concept of analog memory storage and digital memory preservation: seeking to acquire knowledge and understanding of the tasks of storing photographs in controlled microclimates, as well as the parameters and policies of storage for digital object memory.
  • The concepto of access to collections: the aim is to acquire knowledge and understanding of the tasks involved in accessing collections; discussing and reflecting on concepts of public services, dissemination and consultation tools, and public service catalogs.

Fernando Osorio Alarcón has been working for 45 years in the conservation of film images, photography and audiovisual materials. He was a full-time professor of the photographic conservation seminar workshop for eleven years at the National School of Conservation, Restoration and Museography of the National Institute of Anthropology and History. He was Director of Conservation of the Photographic Collections of the Televisa Foundation from 2006 to 2015, as well as the Director of Collections of the National Film Library and leader of the image permanence working group at the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics for fifteen years.
