Photographs by Dana Salvo taken over a decade in different states in central and southern Mexico. Welcomed into rural homes, the photographer has managed to capture, like never before and in great detail, the intimacy of these environments. The "altarcitos," small domestic altars built to commemorate deceased family members, are the focus of this investigation. The essay provides the cultural and historical context for the practice of constructing these altars, which blend ancestral traditions with modern accessories.
