Díaz Burgos, Juan Manuel

Colombian photographer born in 1951. An author with a clear vocation for humanistic, documentary, and essay photography, one of the most important areas of his work is Latin America. He has traveled, camera in hand, to Santo Domingo, Peru, Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Panama, among others. But undoubtedly, Cuba and Santo Domingo have been key places in his relationship with Latin America, where he has captured images full of realism and seeks the strength of the people. He has published numerous books, and recently he was awarded the Bartolomé Ros Photoespaña Prize in 2017. He is a photographer in love with the Latin American and Caribbean idiosyncrasy, focusing his work on recognizing Spanish symbols in the Ibero-American cultural mestizaje. On this occasion, he has focused his point of view on the similarities and differences of the various religious rituals celebrated in Spain and Ibero-America, with their particular characteristics, aesthetic expressions, and passionate contents that, through religion, express a sense of belonging, affirmation of identity, and even patriotic faith.
