Luzuriaga, Camilo

Between 1971 and 1976, he was a theater actor with the Ollantay Group. Later, he shifted towards photography and cinema, producing his first documentary short film, Tierra Cañari, in 1977. In 1990, he directed his first feature film, La Tigra, which received the award for Best Film at the Cartagena de Indias Film Festival. He organized the First National Meetings of Contemporary Photography in Quito in 1982. He taught photography at the Faculty of Arts of the Central University of Ecuador from 1982 to 1987, and served as an image professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Catholic University of Ecuador in 1994. He directed the film Between Marx and a Naked Woman (1996), which received the award for Best Direction at the Havana Film Festival and the awards for Best Set Design and Best Soundtrack at the Trieste Latin American Film Festival. Among other notable feature films are Cara o Cruz (2003) and 1809-1810: Until the Day Comes (2004).
