Gaby Messina photographed and filmed 112 major figures from the art world over the age of 65 over a period of four years. The result is an archive that is, in itself, a work of art. Leading artists in painting, sculpture, photography, watercolor, collage, experimental film, and video art pose in their studios and homes, engaging in a playful exploration of poses and colored lighting. The project is constructed in parts: an exhibition at the MNBA, whose images are gathered in this book; a documentary film that captures Messina’s encounters with these masters; and finally, another book that accompanies and distills the life observations these artists share in a simple and direct way: *Knowing How to See*. Prologue by Gustavo Santaolalla, Ana María Shua, and Eduardo Stupía.
